CEC TL0 3.0

The CEC TL0 3.0 is the audiophile ultimate dual belt drive high performance CD transport. Since CEC introduced world’s first belt drive high performance CD transport in 1991, reviewers and music lovers have enjoyed its rich musical sound of CEC transports. In every respect the TL 0 3.0 embodies a level of perfection that is unprecedented and breathtaking. Handcrafted and assembled in Japan, each TL0 3.0 is rigorously tested after completion and then “burned in” for 1 week before being certified. The design innovations and care in manufacture, makes the TL0 3.0 a reference cd transport with unprecedented performance.

CEC is legendary for precision. Conventional CD transports tend to amplify even the slightest vibration in the reflective surface of the disc due to the distance the laser beam has to travel. These micro-vibrations scatter light and reduce the integrity of the digital data stream. The TL0 3.0’s revolutionary three part chassis suppresses micro-vibrations and resonances that cause unwanted noise and jitter in the data stream.
The elimination of jitter greatly reduces the distortion that too often characterizes CDs as digital rather than musical. CEC has achieved superior isolation of the TL0 3.0 drive mechanism by using three spiked feet and a rubber-damped three-point suspension. The drive mechanism is a massive 30 mm sandwich of non magnetic materials with dissimilar resonances: a 20 mm aluminum plate and a 10 mm brass plate. To assure undisturbed operation of the laser pickup, all sources of electro-magnetic interference are physically isolated. The drive belt multiplies its torque to spin the compact disc on a precision spindle/thrust bearing assembly and supports a 125 mm diameter stabilizer with clamp force of 460 grams.
With inertia comparable to the most massive analog turntable, the flywheel effect of the TL0 3.0 disc stabilizer achieves perfect rotational stability without the constant electronic servo corrections required in all other CD transports.
The servo PCB circuit has been redesigned to shorten the signal pass and strengthen the grounding. This will minimize the deterioration and the distortion of the digital signal recorded on the CD.
CEC’s original Superlink connection has been fitted for the first time in the TL 0 series. When connected to new CEC DA 0 3.0 D/A Converter via Superlink, the shortest and most direct digital signal transportation is available without passing through encoding and decoding procedure.
Pride, craftsmanship, and music reproduction on compact disc have reached a new plateau with the CEC TL0 3.0 – Double Belt CD Transport.

“ I would now like to take my hat off to this CD playback dream team which is indisputably in a complete class of its own!
The recording descended like a thickly woven carpet of sound in the listening room without stripping back any of the finest nuances within the structure of the pieces. The strings caress the eardrums, the trumpets blare loudly and are then punctuated suddenly by a second of absolute silence. It is fascinating to hear this silence and complete tranquility during playback. This is truly sensational!“

“Upon listening, you get the feeling of being kidnapped and taken directly into the concert hall…
The CEC TL0 3.0 drive delivers an incredibly stable and quiet foundation on which the converter delivers a true Symphony of timbres. From the mechanics to the smallest detail for the noise immunity of the well-constructed massive TL0 3.0 drive from CEC, all provides for the foundations of an extraordinarily, monumental, natural musical experience to pack more into these products is currently unimaginable.”
“The way that CEC system presents the physicality of drums, bass, trumpet, vocals finally, is simply incredible. It‘s very uncommon in the context of audio in general, not only for a digital player. In this respect, this performance was very close to the sound of an analog master tape … and in many ways, it‘s even better sound than the one we know from the ‚live‘ events.“

SUPERLINK
SUPERLINK is CEC’s proprietary digital signal transmission system that transports music signals and synchronization(clock) signals with separate cables. The SPDIF (Sony Philips Digital Inter Face) and AES/EBU(Audio Engineering Society/European Broadcasting Union) systems, commonly used in coaxial digital outputs and optical outputs, transmit both the music and clock signals through the same cable, and thus are prone to jitter effects caused by the signals interfering with each other. CEC’s SUPERLINK system transmits these signals separately with multiple cables, requiring no encoding/decoding process for data transmission. It minimizes deterioration of the music signal during transmission by using the clock signals from the D/A converter’s master clock generator to achieve complete synchronization. SUPERLINK is on TL2N, TL0 3.0, DA0 3.0, and the new DA SL.
MCK(Master Clock): The CD transport receives the master clock signal from the D/A converter through this line, and functions as a slave to the DA converter, enabling completely synchronized transportation of audio data.
BCK(Bit Clock): Sends bitclock signals, required for digital data bit identification(e.g. sampling frequency) or signal readout, from the CD transport to the D/A converter.
LRCK(L/R Clock): Sends left/right identification clock signals from the CD transport to the D/A converter.
DATA: Sends audio data from the CD transport to the DA converter.
CEC TL2N

The CEC TL2N high performance CD transport with dual belt drive received RED Fingerprint Award from High Fidelity at the end of 2019. When the TL2N is paired with a DA SL D/A converter the product is greater than the sum of the parts. We are happy to announce that the TL2N and DA SL Converter received the AWARD – BEST PRODUCT OF THE YEAR 2021 from High Fidelity. The TL2N comes with the RU220 aluminum remote.
CEC opened a new chapter in music reproduction in 1991 with the world‘s first Belt Drive CD Transport. The now famous TL 1. Creative mastery of mechanical vibration control techniques resulted in this landmark product. The uniquely analog musicality was hailed as nothing less than revolutionary in digital audio. The breakthroughs of the CEC TL2N have redefined what a high performance cd transport is with the dual belt drive mechanism.
Dual Belt Drive
The dual belt drive mechanism is a completely new development. The mechanism is placed on a larger aluminum chassis for increased stabilization of CD rotation. The dual belt drive system with a large diameter precision flywheel stabilizer improves the accuracy of reading the music data. Craftsmanship and music reproduction on compact disc have reached a new summit with the CEC TL2N dual belt high performance CD transport.
In order to read the digital signal on a CD which is recorded with Constant Linear Velocity (CLV), the rotational speed of the CD is decreased as the laser pickup moves to the outer edge of the disk. The spindle motor controls the variation of disk rotation speed. Direct drive CD players and transports place the spindle motor beneath the turntable. The direct drive motor shaft is used as the turntable center in a direct drive system.
The advantage of the CEC belt drive CD system over the normal direct drive mechanism was demonstrated first by the CEC’s TL 1. The dual belt drive system minimizes the effects of mechanical vibration and electromagnetic noise from the motors. The dual belt drive design allows the motor driving the spindle and the laser pickup feed motor to be located away from the spindle and the laser pickup. The large 12 cm diameter 380 gram stabilizer increases the effective rotating mass which increase the inertia. The high inertia stabilizes the rotation of CD.

SUPPERLINK difference
The proprietary CEC SUPERLINK connection system transmits music signals and synchronization clock signals separately with 4 BNC 75Ω cables. SUPPERLINK requires no encoding/decoding process for data transmission. SUPPERLINK uses the master clock generated by the D/A converter to achieve a closed loop synchronization. The transmission system minimizes deterioration of the music signal and jitter.
Up Sampling
Sampling frequency of CDs is 44.1kHz, this can be unsampled to 88.2kHz or up to 176.4kHz. High resolution field covers even 96 and/or 192kHz as well. CEC’s listening test shows 88.2/176.4kHz sound better than 96/192kHz. Up-sampling is not useful and feasible with SUPERLINK. Enjoy the rich and musical sound reproduced by the new double belt drive CD transport TL 2N with the CEC’s proprietary belt drive technologies.

“.. Thank god, companies such as CEC exist who have spent decades consequently working towards an objective of achieving the most authentic sound experiences as possible with the technical further development of CD playback and always come up with brilliant innovations. The new CEC TL 2N CD drive is undoubtedly one of them.. I can clearly understand the manufacturer’s statement for a voluminous, spatial yet very detailed sound pattern..” Review from HIFI STARS – 2017
“And at this point please allow me to come straight out with it: Tonally, there is no alternative to the Superlink interface. Any other way of connecting drive and converter results in an audible loss of precision and reduced smoothness in the sound. As if these are not enough exotic connection options for the TL 2N: A „Word clock“ input in BNC format allows the synchronisation of the read-out data with a clock specified by DAC. This is something great for applications where no Superlink connection is possible.”
“In fact, the performance of the new mechanism is so impressive that it has forced a major update in the twin-belt design — hence the new TL2N. But the best news of all is that the new TL5 comes in considerably cheaper than the TL3N it replaces – around €1000 less, depending on country. With both Marc Mickelson and Roy Gregory using CEC transports on a regular basis, you can be sure we’ll be keeping a close eye on these new, more affordable models.”

You can buy the TL5 with the RU220 aluminum remote upgrade, ask your local dealer.
Why use a belt drive CD mechanism
CEC leads the industry in high performance CD transport development. In 1991, CEC introduced of the belt drive CD mechanism. The Constant Linear Velocity (CLV) data read rate is controlled by the rotation speed of the CD turntable. In order to read signals from a music CD at a constant linear velocity, the rotation speed must be gradually reduced as the laser pickup moves to the outer edge of the CD. Normally, this linear velocity adjustment is handled by the spindle motor.
Ordinary CD players and transports employ a direct drive system in which a motor is placed directly below the disc turntable. The turntable is directly driven by the motor shaft. In order to obtain controlled and stable rotation, it is necessary to use a relatively large motor. The large motor makes it impossible to avoid signal distortion caused by vibration and electromagnetic noise generated by the motor.

CEC CD transport belt drive mechanism patent
The patented belt drive mechanism design is a ground breaking design with many positive features. The design, uses a heavy-duty CD stabilizer to increase the mass of the turntable and use the force of inertia to achieve extremely smooth disc rotation. The belt drive uses a motor smaller than a direct drive design. The motor is located it away from the disk’s rotation axis and drives turntable from a distance with a belt. The belt absorbs the vibrations from the motor.
The electromagnet interreference is reduce by locating the motor away from the turntable. This creates an ideal environment for reading and transmitting music signals stably and accurately. The belt can be replaced by the owner as needed, just like many high end analog turn tables. You can fully enjoy your favorite CD listening without worrying about changing belts.
These fundamental advances create the ideal environment for the reproduction of music with the industry leading low jitter and high signal to noise ratio. These advances yield a transport with a rich musical sound. Audio Union is the only place to buy CEC TL5 cd transports 120 volt!

CEC DA5

“You should make a note of the name DA5. The new D/A converter of the well known Japanese manufacturer CEC makes an excellent all-round impression. It scores with inner values, such as the built-in exception-DAC chip ES9018K2M and can function with its innovative volume control and the headphone amplifier as the heart of a high quality audio system.
The new CEC DA5 has therefore the stuff to be the heart of a modern audio system. You can not only enjoy the music from the CD drive through it, but also from a Music Streamer or a PC – and at the highest resolution level DSD 256/11.2MHz. But that‘s not all. The CEC DA5 has a newly developed digital volume control, which can adjust the analogue volume level in extremely fine increments from -99 dB to 0 dB. This is not only useful because the D/A converter acts as a headphone amplifier, but also because it can be used just as well as a preamplifier. The CEC DA5 is easily connected to a power amp or powered speakers – and the high quality audio system is ready to go! The new CEC DA5 is simply a very strong statement in digital playback.“ (Hifi Stars – 2016)
The conversion from digital to analogue signal is performed by the ESS Hyper stream DAC chip ES9018K2M compatible with 32bit – 384kHz PCM and 11.2MHz – DSD 256. Exceptional channel separation and wide dynamic range result in reproducing music with unbelievable breath and depth of sound stage. CEC DA5 offers two different digital filters. “FLAT”, a standard filter with super linear frequency response to 20kHz, and “PULSE”, a ringing-free pulse-optimized filter with a softer roll-off below 20kHz.
Digital Inputs: SPDIF: Balanced type AES/EBU, Coaxial and Toslink are compatible with 24bit/192kHz. USB: PCM32bit/384kHz and Native reproduction of DSD256/11.2MHz are available.
Both conventional type RCA and balanced type XLR output connections are available. We recommend the balanced connection to make CEC DA 5 balanced circuit superiority perform at its finest.
Incorporating it’s high performance headphones amplifier circuit the CEC DA5 can be used even as an audiophile headphone amplifier.
Digital volume control can adjust the analog output level at the digital domain. Adjustments from -99dB up to 0dB without deteriorating sound quality are possible. You may even connect directly to a power amplifier and/or active loudspeakers, and adjustments are done via remote control. Once output level has been set it is memorized even after power is off. LED monitor indicates the input status, input sampling frequency and filter condition. You may select the light condition out of three steps of brightness according to your listening condition.
Test reports in international magazines as well as the testimony of our satisfied customers worldwide confirm that we have achieved our musical objective: music reproduction on its highest level.

Why buy CEC CD5
CEC has been an industry leader of CD players since the development of the belt drive in 1991. The Constant Linear Velocity (CLV) data read rate is controlled by the rotation speed of the CD turntable. The rotation of the CD is slowed down as the laser pickup moves to the outer edge of the CD. The design of the CD5 drive mechanically isolates the motor from the turntable with a rubber suspension system. The rubber belt further isolates the turntable from the motor torque vibrations. A lower torque motor is used with a belt drive transport comparted to a direct drive transport design. CEC’s patented belt drive CD transport has a lower mechanical vibration and lower electromagnetic noise when compared to a direct drive design. A heavy CD stabilizer is used to clamp the CD firmly on the turntable which increases the turntable inertia 26 times the inertia of the CD. This achieves a more stable and smooth rotation of the CD disc. These advances reduce the mechanical vibrations and speed variation of the turntable which is needed for accurate CLV. The smaller torque motor of a belt drive transport and longer distance from the motor to the center shaft (turntable) reduces electromagnetic noise levels at the laser pickup. This creates the ideal environment for the reproduction of music with the industry leading low jitter and high signal to noise ratio. These advances yield a high performance CD player with a rich musical sound.
Other CEC CD5 features include:
- digital outputs: COAXIAL and TOSLINK
- digital inputs: USB, COAXIAL, AND TOSLINK
- the fluorescent display which can be dimmed and even turned off
- rubber belt replacement is now done with ease
- shortest possible signal path is maintained by directly mounting of all terminals on a single circuit board
The CEC CD5 has a high-resolution, high-performance DAC. The conversion from digital to analog signal is performed by a ESS Hyperstream ES9018K2M DAC chip. The ES9018K2M is a high performance 32-bit 2 channel audio D/A converter for audiophile grade playback. With USB input connection PCM 32bit/384kHz and DSD128/5.6MHz DAC digital recordings can be streamed to CEC CD5. The D/A converter is used to produce a full-balanced analog signal to achieve dynamic and musical reproduction of the recording. The headphone output enables direct listening without amplifier and loudspeaker system.
Test reports in international magazines as well as the testimony of our satisfied customers worldwide confirm that we have achieved our musical objective: music reproduction at its highest level. The word about the musical cohesion, the rich detail and emotionally gripping “analog-like“ can be found in many industry reviews. No other CD transport has sounded so analog to this day.
